It's because they messed with something that's not just a movie or a game or an IP. Tolkien is the Bible for fantasy literature. It's the lore of England for England. Tolkien is NOT for everyone and he didn't intend it for everyone. It's his love letter to his native country to try to give them back something they lost due to invasions and conquests. Race swapping aside, the characters don't look like Tolkien characters. If they had at least done that, the race swapping could have been overlooked, but all of it combined is too far. I should be able to identify what these characters are at a glance, and I have no idea where they belong looking at the trailer. This isn't about politics and that's why you're seeing everyone pushing back on this. It's about desecrating an important and major literary work that's studied in universities as a major because of how important his contribution to literature was. Edit: Evil can not create anything new.
