Some have touched on it already. You can see the thinking behind it by the predictions that Metaverse admitted to when the stock plummeted to their investors. They based it on past pandemics. They failed to factor in this one wasn't nearly as deadly as those. They expected lockdowns and people being too afraid to leave their homes until a vaccine was created which they estimated would take at least 4 years. They figured by them the culture would shift so drastically that people would remain in that state of wanting everything in their home rather than going out much anymore. Obviously that didn't happen. They were betting on the Great Reset taking place. Where people wouldn't want to or couldn't afford to own a bunch of stuff anymore and a giant rental market would emerge.
