@stalledparade You do know it was proven McCarthy was right? Once the USSR fell and the files were opened up he was completely vindicated. Most people, like I'm assuming you're doing, confuse McCarthy with the Congressional Committee that was in charge of the trials that took place. Most of the people put through those trials, including the ones in Hollywood, were in fact card carrying members of the Communist party and again when the files were opened were found to have been in contact with the USSR government in attempting to subvert entertainment with positive Communist messaging. Walt Disney sought their help because his artists came to him afraid and concerned because the Union they were apart of was trying to force Communism onto the members and remove anyone that didn't join the party. Edit: A good video explanation of all this is Razorfist's Hollywood was Always Red. Those poor actors we're told were blacklisted from Hollywood and had their careers ruined were only not hired for a couple of years. That's not much of a blacklist or a career ender. Chaplin didn't flee the country to avoid his trail in front of that committee. He fled because he was facing charges of trafficking a minor across state lines.

@maayan748 Yes killing over 100 million people, starving your own population, building communities that rat to the authorities on each other if someone dares to have a single apple more than someone else "helped people's lives" as opposed to feeding the poor, giving at least minimal healthcare to those rejected by society because of their illness, and building a community that helps one another. That's pretty much all religions except a couple.

Yes humans are predisposed to some sort of religious ideas. It's because religious type rituals go hand in hand with our evolution into the human species we are today. Because of our ability to reason it creates a need to explain the unexplainable and our pattern recognition makes us put things together that may not actually go together as we search for cause and effect. That's true even today and even in science. That's why what science says is true today could be proven false as we continue invent and innovate.
