That's not what happened with Jamestown. I'm a descendant of settlers of Jamestown and the Native tribe. You've got to go back to the start to understand. When the first settlers arrived and built their fortifications, the tribe didn't attack. Even though we were a warrior tribe and had conquered 40 other tribes, we were extremely polite. I know it's weird, but customs. During the first winter they were forced to dig up and eat their dead to survive. So we taught them how to survive and helped them. We thought if they learned how to take care of themselves, they'd leave. That's all we wanted. Just for them to leave and go somewhere else. They didn't and we couldn't communicate very well so we started attacking in an attempt to drive them away. We came close to totally defeating them a few times, but that wasn't the goal. We did sign a peace treaty. Included was that they wouldn't encroach any further onto our lands. They did, driving us further and further back on our own lands. Eventually Chief Powahatan died and his brother took over as chief. He ordered the war to begin again. Technically they broke the treaty first. We just didn't act on it right then. So saying he pitied us and signed a treaty and we were the ones that broke it is just factually incorrect. They also didn't like that we wouldn't return their escaped slaves and indentured servants that escaped and joined the tribe. Then again they didn't return our tribesmen that they'd enslaved either.

@soulsphere9242 Not on me! I had no restrictions during the pandemic. Neither did Sweden. Do you call them "selfish"? It's illegal to restrict us in the US. Our freedoms of movement and everything else are enshrined in our federal and state Constitutions. Some governors violated those rights, and some did not. Because they are enshrined the lockdown was ruled unconstitutional by the court in Wisconsin and subsequent cases involving what happened are being ruled on as violations against our rights since then. Meaning, according to the law, they can't happen again since there are now court precedents in place. The states I lived in didn't take an economic hit because we didn't follow the advice. In fact the opposite. We've enjoyed an economic boom as companies and people continue to flee to them. No fines were levied, nobody denied employment or services because they didn't take a medication that doesn't protect anybody else. The lawsuits are flying and being won against companies and governments. There's a saying by a Founding Father in the US. Those that sacrifice freedom for safety deserve neither. So yes, we put freedom first. It's not new and it's why we ended slavery, had the Civil Rights Act, and everything else because we've always viewed freedom as the most important thing and take the words written in our constitution seriously. Willingly sacrificing freedom for security is how you eventually get tyranny. Just because you tolerate tyranny out of fear doesn't make you the better person.
