@Jubernuaght The south is where a lot of oil refineries are located and oil wells are all over. It will be fine. I grew up without air conditioning in the Delta region and am well aware it's not as bad as many speculate. It wasn't largely populated because it's used for farmland and agricultural. It was late developing after the industrial revolution. People moved to where the jobs were which was factories. Do you really think those factory floors weren't extremely hot during the summer pre AC? The population increased (though in most areas it's still low) because industrialization spread down to it. You don't build massive factories in your prime agricultural areas as a country unless you want your population to starve so the south was never going to develope like the north which had much shorter growing seasons and less rainfall.

@dirtyaznstyle4156 It's called oil and lots of it. I'm from a small southern town in Arkansas and there were 3 refineries all using mostly local oil. 30% of Arkansas's energy is also already from water power. Most of the south already has a higher percentage of renewable energy than most other states.

As others have stated, the southern US will be fine. It's still full of natural resources and has the longest growing season. Combine with the oil supply and already high percentage of renewable power, it's one of if not the best area to survive off grid in already. Most of us know how to hunt, fish, and grow our own food already as well because it's still mostly rural.

@ashleyhathaway8548 That would be great. Then the farmers can grow crops that are profitable instead of ones the government suppresses the price of to keep them affordable because they are required for a civilization to live. Crops like rice, wheat, and corn. Then when there's a shortage of them, the price can rise accordingly. Unfortunately that will make them no longer as cheap and affordable so people can use them to stretch out their food supply and the cost of everything they are used in, like pet and animal feed, will become unaffordable for most. Then that will drive the cost of EVERYTHING even higher and millions of citizens will starve, but that's a small price to pay to get rid of those pesky subsidies. Right?
