Merry Christmas back at you! It's the spirit of the season that's important no matter where those feeling come from.

@Ultrox007 Doing things for others is one of the best ways to increase happiness. It's good that the time of year it is isn't what motivates you to do that.

My family has always handled it similarly. When asked if Santa is real, of course he is. Santa isn't a single person, but the Christmas spirit of giving and service to others. I got visits from "Santa" well into my adulthood. Viewing it that way, Santa being real is never a lie and children aren't "traumatized" because you're never lying to them. Just like it being a secret in your version, it becomes an idea bigger than themselves that they want to spread to others. Edit: Getting their stocking from Santa every year is still my sons' favorite part of Christmas. They are 22 and 23. It's just like a bit of candy and small things like socks or a little something extra. It's because what it means, not what it is. I got "Santa" as an adult as appreciation from my parents for taking care of them throughout the year. The same is true for my boys. A special little thank you for taking care of me on days I can't get around. Signifying the service part.

@clairewarner5704 I think people miss that part of what Santa represents. That's why when my children were little I made it clear that Santa is the spirit of Christmas. The giving to others. Once they figured out it wasn't a real person, they also realize I never lied to them. I never once tell them it's a single person. Whenever they ask, even now, I answer yes he's the spirit of Christmas. Edit: I thank my mother for that because that's who she taught us he was. She also without flinching would say he's real until the day she died. I believe that came from her father.
