@patricialavery8270 Oh no! You're in one of THOSE groups. The Tolkien Society idiots who's meeting every year is full of topics about how problematic Tolkien's writings are.

@Cosmoproto We're talking about the Middle Ages. There wasn't even a concept of rights. This is why they're trying to explain using those labels is meaningless when discussing the past because they didn't exist as a concept. Only the nobles cared about politics. Everyone else was under the rule of whoever was in power.

@Marveryn It was not a gay group. Teddy Roosevelt was called a Dandy due to his clothing and how he grew up wealthy. He joined the Rough Riders to shed that image to benefit his political career.

@sboinkthelegday3892 In the West gays are not fighting for the right to exist. Age of fertility makes no difference in gay people because they lack the ability to procreate. I assume you're aware it requires a sperm and an egg and not just one. I also have no idea why you're focused on gay people in a comment thread about history professors.

@SassyGirl822006 He was only Emperor for 4 years. That's most likely the reason. The people he's responding to are claiming not only that they existed but were accepted and referred to as a 3rd gender. Nothing that you posted confirms that. The problem is we're living through a time period of revisionist history in which certain groups claim historical figures for political reasons. Changing the past in an attempt to make it appear more accepting than it was in an attempt to shame their political opposition.

@4rtie "I acknowledge that trans, intersex, and asexual people also existed". Intersex is a medical condition brought on by a mutation. It's not the same thing as the other 2 and does not belong grouped with them. Eunuchs existed too, but they weren't a different gender. They were still considered men. Asexual isn't found in history because sex was seen as a duty. Not like it is today. Having a low sex drive isn't an identity. It's usually caused by a medical reason. That it's now being made into an identity because people are way too freely discussing their sex life with complete strangers is 100% a new concept.
