@priscillajimenez27 You do know there are areas of huwite populations that don't have those things too, right? In fact, where JD Vance is talking about being from, there are areas with no electricity or water treatment. The poorest area in the US is the Appalachians. I'm not meaning to derail the conversation, but you seem to be under the impression that's only a Native thing. There are also areas in Louisiana that are very rural with a black population that also don't have access to those things. Generally speaking though, that particular group live that way by choice to stay connected to their heritage.

Basically what they're saying is they don't understand southern or Indian culture. Indian culture also says the wife is now part of and the responsibility of the husband's family. That's why you take his name. You're buried with others with your name. It's not that complicated. In my case it will be different, but that's because I'm the one with a family plot and who's family has a long history in the area because my husband is an immigrant. As for his shared history comment, pretty sure once you immigrate and become an American citizen, you too are now a part of that shared history. It's called assimilation.
