So the ancient Greeks had perms? You can see curly hair in statues and on coins from several European ancient countries. Their own ignorance of world history and cultures while claiming to own it is astounding.

@MannyLoxx2010 Well then that's not black culture, it's Egyptian. Then again that's recorded history which most areas were still tribal and if they did have a written language, it wasn't used to record anything outside religious ceremonies, their gods, or battles. So saying that's the first is dubious at best. In Native American culture braids signified if you were single or married and they hadn't been in contact with Egypt and since there was no written history, just verbal and they've been on the continent for about 20,000 years at least, it could have been before Egypt. There's no way to know. I'm not just a history buff, but an archaeology one as well. There's no way to know for sure because our current knowledge is limited to written history.

@Chigo-nr8jg False. If Natives, for example, didn't make tight braids their hair wouldn't remain in a braid. It would simply fall out. They didn't have rubber bands to hold them together so they had to be very tight. Seriously saying something so ignorant just to try to justify a claim?

@nikol6310 No. Bo Derek did in the movie 10 and she's not black. That's just recent history. Having grown up in that period in a majority black town, I know it wasn't even a popular style then. Pigtails were. It became popular after that movie and was attributed to Jamaica, not AA in the US. Edit: People who traveled there for vacation were coming back with them.
