No, it didn't because what he's claiming we don't focus on has been what we've focused on since the late 80s. You can't look at today's school system and make his claims. Recess as been almost completely removed, trade skills have been removed, anything that taught life skills has been removed, homework has gotten insane, etc. Daily homework now is 2-3 hours worth. Our entertainment shows the jocks and popular girls as the bad guys. Athletics teaches teamwork and a competitive spirit. During our peak our nerds were also fairly accomplish in athletics as well as academics. The only people saying he's right hasn't had a kid in school in the last 15-20 years. The issue with education is the teachers not teaching and standards lowered so failing kids aren't held back. It has nothing to do with athletics or our culture. In fact, the US has the 2nd most unhealthy work culture in the world. Just behind Japan. Edit: The people in his culture that work 80 hours a week is the slave class.

@comment3711 Which is telling because Screech wasn't even smart. Zach was the genius and scored way higher on the SAT than Screech. That lesson is that the truly highly gifted tend to be goof offs because they're bored. Einstein is a prime example of it. He got kicked out of several schools for being a mischief. What he's advocating for doesn't produce geniuses because if you have to work that hard to pass basic studies, you're not really intelligent. Much less creative. The student that comes up with a million ways to make mischief is the creative and innovative one. Not the kid with their nose shoved in a book memorizing stuff.

@calgal8915 A lot fled to Oklahoma, and I don't think most vote blue. Even our big cities are now red. Now, in places like Texas, where a lot of tech companies are moving to, turning it blue is a much greater risk. It's more companies moving that creates the risk than individuals.

@jonschroedinger8360 It was pretty much a lie. Anyone that's ever been around a real highly gifted child would know sticking their nose in a book except to sleep destroys any creativity or drive they have. A lot are on hands learners. Especially boys. Which means they need to take things apart and put them back together to fully understand things rather than just reading about someone else doing it. They need to SEE how things function. His rant came across as a jealous teenager that got rejected by the head cheerleader for the captain of the football team.
