Near my old hometown there's a refinery being built, 2 actually side by side by different companies, that have figured out how to take the waste water from the nearby chemical plants and extract lithium from it. A massive amount of it. The other refinery is making that lithium useable. Once that's up and running the US will have all the lithium it needs to construct these batteries without any need of China. Why then isn't the US allowing US companies to benefit instead of bringing in Chinese companies to build them? We'll be able to compete with China in exporting the lithium and the batteries, which will most likely be better quality if made by US companies, so why isn't that being done? Maybe because a certain party is heavily invested in China and vice versa. The single plant will produce 30% of the entire world's lithium demand. One plant. This is US innovation and ingenuity at its finest, but instead of capitalizing off it, the governments are just increasing our reliance on China.
