It's because people are afraid to parent anymore. You've got all these "experts" that say just disciplining your children will cause brain damage. They're told they should do everything they can to make sure their children are happy. It's crazy some what some of the current parenting advice is.

Children would sit in front of the radio for hours too. It's not new. It wasn't new with TV. Parents were just more involved for the most part. Until Gen X it was uncommon that a parent or grandparent wasn't at home when the children got home from school. Gen X was the least supervised generation in history. That started the parenting trend that's still going on today. Just now their supervised by a stranger you pay. Parents come home, they're tired from work and mentally drained. They've got to feed the kids and do as much housework and laundry they can when they're at home so they don't spend much time supervising their kids. While I can blame the parents to a degree, it's just as much the current culture of consumerism that says you've got to have all this stuff or you're not successful instead of the standard of success being you're family.

Unfortunately not everyone lives in a rural area. The majority of the population live in cities so those things aren't an option. Those also aren't activities most young girls like to do. Tiktok really exploded during the pandemic when those activities were banned in many places. It's nice that you grew up that way, but it's not a solution for most people. To be more blunt, it's a nice story, but it's not a realistic solution to the current problem. I grew up working the family farm, but I know most people don't have access to that type of life.

@nightmarerex2035 My sons weren't allowed a phone that would text until 16. I strictly limited their TV and computer time too. I didn't allow them to have a computer in their bedroom and once they got decent phones at 16, they had to give them up when it was time to relax and go to bed. They are 23 and 24 now. When it's nice outside they'd rather be outside relaxing near the pool or watching the dogs play then be on the computer or phone. They both work fulltime and contribute to paying the bills as long as they live with us. They know how to talk to people face to face and make friends in real life instead of having just internet friends.

@krunchyapples It is and it's so frightening what's happening to these generations. It's bad for adults, but worse for children.

@donjohnson1498 It's so tiring seeing this same comment over and over in anything that has to do with technology. It's just complaining for the sake to complain. It's just a bad statement all around. The family radio would be on all day and kids would lay in front of it listening to radio broadcasts of Little Orphan Annie and various other programs. The only solution would be an intrusive government involved in every aspect of our lives and banning any technological advances. Basically live under a CCP type government. Nobody wants that so stop with this pointless bs of "if it wasn't for this". This exists so deal with it.

I guess you didn't pay attention to the video. They aren't "faking it". There's a real serious problem of people watching people with Tourette's over and over and developing tics themselves. There's been a flood of them in doctor's offices and therapists. It's called a social contagion. Being angry at them is just as bad as people being angry at your child.
