It's very sad and horrible. Had that little girl been helped and seen the right people to help deal with what happened, their life would have been completely different. They most likely wouldn't have changed. This book is a good example of why "affirmative" care is wrong and bad. It doesn't allow the deeper issues that are the cause to be delt with and just pushes young, traumatized, and abused children into lifelong medical care.

As an abuse victim, that's been coming into question lately as it should. A lot of people that abuse or commit crimes and claim abuse, there's no evidence of past abuse. Sometimes there is, but that's usually when the abused attacks or kills the abuser. Not when they do that to others. That belief is based entirely on the criminals word or the abusers word. Since we know people will intentionally lie to downplay their involvement in something they know is wrong, it stands to reason they'd blame others for causing their own actions as well. Most are also well aware that it can play on sympathy of the jurors or judge and can result in lighter sentences.

Damn! I thought GenX was raised free range. We did have boundaries and responsibilities. Our parents did teach us the basic stuff. The pad thing was probably to "save the environment". The parents are why society generally looked down on the hippie commune thing. While that is an extreme of it, a lot of them weren't very far from that. I don't think it's that want children to suffer the same trauma they did. I think it's so that their trauma no longer makes them different if it's the norm.
