@briansweet5614 Then how is what they are saying "not true" when it's exactly what's being described? I think it's hilarious when people claim something isn't true and you can opt out when these companies have been busted time and time again not really disabling the function. Google just lost a lawsuit over saying you can turn off the tracking but it really doesn't, Alexa playing back recorded conversations it's not "supposed" to store, etc. Edit: Either you're extremely gullible or you're a fed trying to protect your access to track people on watch lists.

I'm going to get a doorbell camera, just not Ring. I noped out when Amazon bought it too.

@cd5sircoupe No, it's just you're complaining about something that's been a thing forever. If it wasn't a camera it would be a person. Neighborhood watches are a thing and there's always one or two nosey neighbors in every neighborhood. The cameras have eliminated most of the neighborhood watch programs, but if there weren't cameras, someone would still be watching. Edit: The fact you used the term violated is odd. That other people protecting their property and neighborhood is somehow threatening sounds like a you problem. It keeps the neighborhood safe so you CAN walk at night and keeps property values up.

@TrueFork Big brother isn't the cameras. It's the paying for other people to store the data. Alexa is Big Brother because it records and stores your conversations.

@WolfxXx65 Then never call them. It's really simple. You don't get to deny other citizens their right to justice however.

@tin2001 I really think that might be a lot of it. Especially in big cities police don't seem to want to do the legwork anymore. It's much easier to contact a company to do it for you.

Google lost a lawsuit from Arizona I think. It's because they claimed you could turn off the tracking and data collection but it still did it.

@HumorousLOL Snowden revealed that's not true. The Patriot Act does indeed allow citizens to be monitored and access to all your data. No, you don't have to be on a watchlist either. It allows up to the third person circle to be monitored. It's for any immigrant, not just specific ones. A person in direct contact with an immigrant can be tracked, a person in contact with that person can be, and a person in contact with that person can be. 3 people out. It essentially allows the government to monitor and track the entire population. You don't even have to be friends or close. If they simply call you or work with you, the Patriot Act allows you to be tracked.

@V0YAG3R And has been happening as long as neighbors have existed. Every neighborhood has had the nosey neighbor that watches from their window all the time.

@thevashfan12392 It isn't though. I've seen a couple of people say this. If you're subscribed to a security company that "gives" you the equipment after so many years, you'll pay more for it over that period of time than an upfront cost of doing it yourself. The only advantage is it's not all at once.

I would have no problem with turning over any footage I have. I don't have my cameras to protect criminals. I have them to protect against criminals. They helped us catch a neighborhood thief who made the mistake of stealing a Yeti cooler from my carport. They'd been at it for months. One in my town just helped catch a guy that was stealing people's cats and killing them with a bat for fun. There's some seriously twisted people out there.

@m2hmghb What? For what you pay the company to do that you can do it cheaper. You could even just use cheap game cameras that use an SD card. The truth is you like the convenience of not having to do anything. Set it and forget it.
