X is the company Musk started with Tiel that began his journey into the billionaire he is today. My guess is he needed the lawsuit to stop because his ultimate plans, and the investors in it, were going to be reviled in discovery. He was asking about hardware in the Twitter all hands meeting. I believe he wants to create a giant tech company to take on all the others eventually. One that's as open source as possible. That can't be influenced by anyone outside of it. That will have bylaws regulating how it will function forever that can't be broken without it self destructing. To give the power back to the people and prevent the government and others from using it as a way to control and silence people.

X is the tech company he made that was a payment processor that was used to create PayPal. He held on to it after PayPal bought his program. I believe he's going to make a giant site that can do everything. Most likely as open source as possible so people no longer fear losing their access to anything digital. I can see him possibly merging with Rumble and maybe picking up Dan Bongino's new payment processing or even another one. That's the 3-5 year plan.
