@TacitaSaturnia Yes, he removed Glorfindel because leaving him in would have required introducing him and going over who he is for a single scene. Adding more length for a character that only does 1 thing in the entire film. Do the films maintain the feeling of Tolkien's world? Absolutely. Did they maintain the themes? Absolutely. Did they portray the relationships and the importance of what was going on? Absolutely. Even J. R. Tolkien said changes would be required for it to be put in a different medium. He understood you couldn't do a one for one from book to movie form. Taking issue with removing the scouring of the Shire is a legitimate complaint. Complaining he removed a single character that he didn't have the rights to beyond a single scene is nit picking.

Fortunately, no. LotR isn't a franchise. It's a series of books written by a single person. Only he controls the lore, and since he's dead, nothing can be added or removed from it. Only what he sent to the publisher is canon. The movies are the closest we will ever get to seeing his world outside our heads.

@Cyraxior He's a failed writer that's jealous of his grandfather. So he wants to milk it. He was who suggested they make Sauron White from Breaking Bad.

@cal2127 Nope. That part was published after Tolkien's death by Christopher. Tolkien never finished it. So that's technically not canon. We'll never know if he would have left that in or changed it. There are many versions of LotR that he wrote, but he only published one of them. Edit: The first two parts of The Silmarillion were published by Tolkien. The 3rd and final part was compiled by Christopher and published after his death.

They don't have the rights to it. I think they may have finally purchased them, but they were only given rights to the appendices in LotR. They can't use anything that directly references the movies or they have to pay Warner Bros.

I've said they clearly didn't read the books. The characters don't talk like that. It's all pretty standard talking.
3
They justify it by saying "We turned the wheel."

They can't. The contract is 5 seasons so 5 seasons must be made and shown.

It's not Dungeons and Dragons. It's Tolkien. Completely different IPs though D&D was inspired by Tolkien. Which makes sense since he's basically the father of the fantasy genre.

The massive worldwide Tolkien fan base.

It's up in the air. He never decided. At least didn't publish anything definitive about it. There's musings in some letters and possibilities in some of his writings that he never finished.

You're allowed to like bad things. That's no excuse for destroying the lore. They did purchase the rights to The Silmarillion for season 2. So that excuse is gone.

In this time period in the books, she's already that person. She's 1,000 years old. She's running her own kingdom with her husband and daughter who later marries Elrond and they have a daughter that becomes Aragorn's wife. She had nothing to do with Anatar. She never trusted him. She certainly didn't have a love affair with him. Celebrimborn being a smith was not old and scrawny. Elves stopped aging once reaching adulthood. The only thing correct about the lore is names, places, and that Dwarves mined mithril. The rings are completely out of order. The 3 rings Celebrimborn made were made last and by him alone. Sauron made the One ring himself in the fires of Mordor. If they don't do that, and it appears they're not going to, it completely destroys LotR because Frodo wouldn't need to throw it into those same fires. Sauron being defied by the orcs and killed by them is disgusting. He was no weakling. He was a demi-god. They've degraded every single character. Edit: Galadriel was the most powerful magic user among the elves. Even Sauron feared her even though he was more powerful. She studied for centuries with a Maiar who'd settled in Middle Earth because she fell in love. She had no need for a sword. She dismantled Mordor after Sauron was finally defeated using her magic. People point to Gandalf using one to try to justify doing it to her. He was limited into how much he could interfere. The population of Middle Earth had to win the war themselves. He was only there to guide them.

The way Tolkien described to think of them is the Mongolian hordes that went across Asia killing everyone.

@batmanjokeslmao Which were orcs. Tolkien never decided how they came to be. He had 3 ways in his writings but never published one.

@huanhoundofthevailinor2374 Your "da" believed a communist paper then. That's where that rumor came from. They were upset because he protected his artists from communist run Unions that were threatening them. He went before the committee and ratted them out along with his artists. So they commenced a smear campaign that for some reason persists to this day. Congratulations. You're championing commies.

@bigwig3595 You're an idiot. He couldn't make each movie 5 hours long. They would have tanked. He was pushing it with how long the theater cut ended up being.

The contract is 5 seasons. So 5 seasons it will be. Most people knew this from the start.

Do you know why a ship floats and rock sinks? Goes into long poetic word salad.

It's not funding anything. They're not making a profit on it. Buying stuff from Amazon allows the money to fund it. Just like Disney makes most of its money from the parks.

OMG! No! Leave Tom alone!
