@hombreg1 I see where you're confusion is coming from. The English Bill of Rights and the Magna Carta created the idea of individual rights. The US Constitution was the first document and country to recognize that individual rights are the right of all humans even if their government doesn't recognize them. So to say we don't recognize human rights just means you don't know history because we created them. That's how we can say a place like China is violating human rights even though it's within their rule of laws. Laws don't create rights. They exist for every human no matter the government you're under and the US was the first to say that. Edit: The reason it wasn't human rights in the English Bill of Rights is because it was limited to free men. In the US Constitution it was all people. There was no distinction made with citizenship or status. Just because other countries want to add specific things to the original broad terms, doesn't mean the US no longer recognizes human rights. That's an absurd take especially considering the US is one of the very few that still recognizes and enforces the original ones like right to self defense and free speech. Most Western countries now have laws strictly limiting those rights.

@jarleron4788 That's Canada's laws infringing on your basic rights. Not a good example. Canada also doesn't have free speech. Using your reasoning, China isn't violating human rights because it's legal there and neither did the guy in Germany with the funny mustache. Rights exist even if a government doesn't recognize them or makes laws against them. Self defense falls under the right to life. If you don't have the right to self defense then you can't defend yourself against a wild animal attacking you. So you should just let the bear maul your family? See, defend. Humans are animals. You have the right to defend yourself against harm. Edit: Calling defending yourself a reflex is too funny. Why do animals have natural reflexes in certain situations? To defend themselves from attacks and death. You've really fallen for the government propaganda. The natural reaction you're yammering on about talking about "wording" is called scientifically defense within the animal kingdom. You're the only one trying to change definitions to suit your argument. Edit 2: It's not a reflex either. It's an instinct. A natural instinct of survival. Thus it falls under right to life.

@hombreg1 How do we not recognize natural human rights? One country isn't bound by another country's laws. Treaties aren't recognized in the US unless they are ratified by the states because we're a country of individual states that came together rather than a country that broke into smaller sections for easier governance. The federal government technically shouldn't even be signing them because they don't have the power to do so. Not understanding how our system works, because it's set up to protect individual rights, doesn't mean we don't have them.

@matts2664 Someone calling for a terrorist attack where a former President is, isn't political. What he did is called inciting violence and terroristic threatening which is a crime.
