I've been to Disney World 3 times with my kids. Me and hubby were planning a trip for the food and wine festival before the pandemic. Disney has dropped all their perks so it's no longer worth the price. It's pretty simple. Things I got for free because I stayed on property are now charged for or gone completely but the prices have gone way up. Every trip there was always a point where something great happened for our kids and my husband would go "worth every penny". That's not going to happen now. I have to pay to park at one of the resorts now, no meal plans, no shuttle from the airport, no free fast pass, etc. You even have to pay for the band that's required to access your tickets and room. No thank you. We're planning a trip to Universal now after their expansion is finished. Edit: At Universal you get a free line pass for staying at a mid level resort. At least I get something for my money unlike Disney which now nickle and dimes you to death. The first trip we joked about how amazingly they treat their guests by saying they did everything but wipe you butt for you. Now they don't even do something as simple as pick you up from the airport. Meanwhile Universal is building a train between the airport and their park.

They cut the yearly passes so that cut into it. They are losing money because the wealthy they tried to court aren't going. According to analytics, the biggest drop has been in older people bringing their grandchildren and international travel. That's who they were targeting so it failed. If they were making money they wouldn't have brought back meal plans and be offering 30% discounts including the Christmas season. If people don't feel they're getting their money's worth, they'll go somewhere else.
