@covershopkid You can not believe it all you like, but it's been going on since the Patriot Act to varying degrees. The Patriot Act allows Homeland Security to search every email and log every contact that an immigrant makes. It allows that information to extend to two people past the immigrat (it was 3 but the court ruled that was too far). So every person the immigrant has contact with via email or cell phone, every person they have contact with and every person they have contact with and monitor them all. The emails are searched for keywords too. If Homeland Security can do that, why do you think it would nearly impossible for the FBI to monitor key word searches. They also already, and have for decades, monitor book purchases. Certain books are flagged and if it's bought or ordered that information is sent to the FBI. Think of the thousands of background checks performed daily for gun purchases. Yet this isn't possible? Edit: I was aware of this before Snowden because my husband is an immigrant and the Patriot Act directly effected us. We knew we were under constant varying levels of surveillance.
