  1. Exactly. It was so belittling how she kept saying "just high school". No. MY husband is "just high school" making $40 an hour pension, 401k matching, 1 week off every month, and they cover insurance premiums. He works at an oil refinery as an operator. There are guys certified trades for specific machinery and welds that work 2-3 turn arounds (it's about 2 months straight 12 hours) and don't work the rest of the year because they've made over $200,000+ on just those. That's the difference between "just high school" and certificates.

  2. I'm going to be harshly honest, if you're a huwhite male don't bother with college. It's much easier to get hired doing grunt work and it pays better. Go to community college, get a wage certificate and start applying at refineries. My son just got hired at one at 25, 2 years in manufacturing, and in 1-2 years he'll be making $40 an hour. Just like his father has for the last 3 years when we moved. Different refinery 3 hours away so it wasn't because of his dad that he got the job.
