@anon2427 Thanks for not understanding what a free economy and free trade is. That's what's called capitalism. It's been in practice since before civilization existed. We don't have a capitalist economy. We have a mixed economy. Capitalism has very little state interference. Western countries have tons of interference with massive amounts of rules and regulations that stifle a free economy.

@DarkSkay The President isn't the only seat of power. You're looking at it from a dictatorship point of view. It can come from corruption and from a single party rather than an individual. Russia is technically a Democracy and they vote every 6 years (4 until 2012). They are still run like a totalitarian government. China has local elections, but still a totalitarian government. If a single party can eliminate, imprison, or not allow potential rivals to run for office it's not a democracy any longer no matter how often you vote. If the population is too afraid to vote for an opposition because they'll face dire consequences, it's not a real democracy. If the system has become so corrupt and entrenched with a single party, to the point the institutions can be and are being used against political opponents, it's no longer a real democracy. Edit: You have a very simple minded approach to how governments function and a naive faith in the strength of a Democracy.

@fib1478 North Korea would fit the definition of a totalitarian government no matter what time period. You also don't know the difference between being close to something and actually being that thing. Are you trying to claim China isn't a totalitarian government? They are very totalitarian. They decide, based on what you say or who your family is, what you can and can't buy. They weld people into their homes and have current concentration camps. You're belief is that in order to be totalitarian a government must be the most extreme example. There are levels of totalitarianism just like any other type of government. The video listed different types of totalitarian governments including fascist and communist. Germany and Italy voted like a Democracy, but were still totalitarian governments. A totalitarian government can hide behind the veneer of being a Democracy.
