@KyleTheDalek Children aren't free. They are under their parents control. Parents can home school and teach their child whatever language they like or make one up. They won't qualify to be recognized as having certain skills required by employers to get a job or be able to communicate with their neighbors so they could potentially work for themselves. If a parent wishes to handicap their child like that, they can it's just not to the benefit of the child. Are you under the impression that language skills aren't learned until we're adults and able to make choices for ourselves? Language skills begin developing pretty much at birth with children finally able to process it enough to speak by around age 2. Unless you completely isolate your child for their entire life, they're going to learn the languages that they hear. Edit: It's also hilarious you're attempting to use libertarian arguments when the person being interviewed is talking about state schools and using state power to force his ideas onto the population.

"That's what college is all about" except he's not talking about college students, he's talking about Jr high and high school students. That's where honor programs are centered. It's funny that we've just recently acknowledged that high IQ is a learning disability because just like low IQ they don't learn the same way as most do. So now people like him want to further handicap them by ignoring them. We didn't just go through the Ebonics period either which was rejected by most unlike his claims that it was accepted. We also went through allowing papers to be done in text speech which also failed. People like him don't take into account that we're preparing students to possibly be in roles where they'll deal with people from other countries. Be that research or IT. So other people need to be able to understand them or the world will be back to what's described by the Tower of Babble story. Then again part of the strategy of Communist Russia was to mix up the population to destroy being able to trust your neighbors to prevent a revolt. I guess destroying the ability to communicate would serve the same function.
