Yes. It was said early on that death rates will increase. Suicide alone almost doubled which is already one of the top killers. Drug overdoses, homicide, etc. You'd need to factor out all those to get anywhere near the excessive deaths that can be put on the virus. I know one early study said that most people that died from/with it, would have done so within a few more months. The average age of death was above life expectancy. The lockdowns caused deaths that wouldn't have occurred especially in young people. To me, that's the biggest and most important takeaway. Elderly with one foot in the grave is sad. Young people full of potential and decades left on their lives is tragic.

The studies they were using to justify a lot of this were from China. They were extremely faulty studies if you looked at them. Mask "studies" were merely comparisons of recorded infection numbers before and after a mandate was put in place. It didn't take any other factors into consideration. That's not how scientific studies are done. They were basing it on correlation being causation which has never been considered scientific. The studies of the masks blocking infection were done in a lab in controlled conditions with the added disclaimer that they weren't proof for a real world comparison. Just like what children were being taught in school was exposed, what had been going on in the scientific community was too. Rejecting inconvenient information wasn't new and had been going on for awhile. I first saw it when a black man lost his grants, his fellowship, and his teaching position because he did a study to see if police are really racist and the result was no.
