@babajaiy8246 So since the value of money decreases due to inflation I should accept in return less value than what I gave? Then why would I ever loan it? You’re coming from a complete misunderstanding of value. That’s also money that I could have made more money from meaning I’ve lost more value by having it no longer available to me which according to you I should just be thrilled to take a loss on for some reason. Believe it or not more people are willing to do something if they receive something in return. Banks and individuals aren’t charities. There are lots of those that will just give you money. Edit: That’s not even factoring in the risk you won’t ever pay it back which means I just lost a massive amount of my labor to you for nothing. I intentionally used labor since that’s the term people like you like to use instead of value.

@babajaiy8246 If you grew up during a time period you claim you’re over 80 years old. My mother passed away at 73 and had to work everyday of her adult life while married with children. Please tell that to all the married women that have worked as nurses, teachers, and secretaries for decades before the 70s. You’re looking to a time period that never existed for the majority of people. By the way, we were poor. I mean really poor and I stayed home most of our marriage of 26 years. It’s absolutely still possible but you’ve got to be willing to give up a lot of wants to do it. A lot of women figured it out during the lockdowns and haven’t returned to the workforce. It’s not the market that’s why that’s not the norm. It’s that people don’t want to because it requires giving up a lot of luxuries they don’t want to do without. Which as much as you don’t like it, is their choice to make.

I don’t think it’s “fairness”. It’s pride. They don’t want to be seen as taking more to someone else. They don’t want to feel like they owe that person or are being looked at as less. Edit: If it was somehow completely anonymous or being viewed as coming from an organization or government rather than an individual, you’d see a completely different outcome. Mainly because it’s more about social pressure than really money.

It’s also economic freedom which means countries with less regulations which stifles the market by increasing the burden of entry.
