  3. Is saying you couldn't condemn an animal for killing to survive humanizing them? That's the same with orcs. Just because that's someone's opinion on how a Catholic responded to a question, doesn't make it what Tolkien ment. A Christian isn't supposed to condemn anything. That's God's job, and that's how he answered.

  4. This is NOT Tolkien's language. If you pay attention, it's pretty regular English. It's not written poetically. There aren't these sayings or metaphors everywhere. It just seems like it is because of the setting. Meanwhile, they're trying to make it sound like Shakespeare.

  6. Oh, honey. We DID do this to the LotR films. Fortunately, there wasn't a lot to complain about, unlike this show. You must not have been around way back then. The discussions on the boards were rather heated. There is absolutely nothing about this show that resembles Tolkien's world. It's git names from it, but that's all. This show sucks. Even if it was a stand-alone fantasy. It might appeal to the soap opera crowd, but definitely not the Tolkien fandom. Edit: Do you go to people's offices and tell them that about their job? This is these guys' jobs. Don't like it, don't watch it.

  7. Tolkien never really said. He wrote many possibilities on how they were originally created but never settled on one. 3 ways to be exact. That was one of them. None are in the books he wrote. They were published after his death. So not canon.

  8. I don't know how to break this to you. That book isn't canon. It's a compilation of writings Tolkien made when he was working out LotR and thinking about expanding it. He described 3 different ways orcs could have been created but never settled on one. Just like in most mythology around the world, we don't know how every single creature was created. We do know Melkor/Morgoth created many creatures in Mordor, like dragons. We don't know how exactly he made them either, and it doesn't seem something people seem to care about. So this fixation on orcs is kind of strange. Edit: It was compiled and published after Tolkien's death by Christopher. He did that so people could see his father's creative process.

  11. The movies had them come from mudpits and magic, which was another explanation Tolkien had. That they were made from mud and rock in mockery of the elves in Mordor. That would allow for a near limitless supply.

  14. That's not how a queen would act. She'd be dead before the queen could even react. She'd definitely be imprisoned. After that, the queen might go speak privately with her, but a public act like that wouldn't go unpunished.

  17. The orc thing is showing the contradiction from what the show has tried to establish. The horse thing is a bad attempt at ripping off the movies. It was shown through the films that Aragorn and his horse shared a special bond. That's not been established in this.
