A government's main role is to protect its citizens from outside forces. Not to "take care of its people". The idea that government is supposed to provide for you is a very new one and left by nature. If they can convince you of that, they can convince you it needs to be for the "workers" and other leftist crap. I'm Gen X, the most libertarian generation to exist. We were/are also very patriotic. The power structure the founders put forth was and still is the most libertarian to ever exist. Small, controlled federal government with most power being with the state and local governments. Until Lincoln there was no national loyalty persay. Your loyalty was to your community, your state, and then the federal government. Citizens didn't call themselves Americans. They called themselves citizens of their state. They were Texans, Georgians, etc. That was the ideal. That was how it was supposed to work. It was never supposed to be what we have today.
