My son bought into all this until I explained me and his father were going to be millionaires upon retirement because we've saved it up. I explained these taxes would impact us. He immediately goes "but you're different you saved it and sacrificed to make sure you'd have enough for retirement". I told him the government doesn't care how we got that money, just that we have it. He started thinking about these numbers a bit differently after that. As Andrew said, most of those people accumulated that wealth over their lifetime and even over multiple generations. Some by doing like we have and it's compiled over time and others because they came up with a great idea people were willing to pay for. Neither way is bad and they've all earned it one way or another. These claims by politicians are just feeding off people's jealousy and coveting.
