I understand that a lot have not read the Silmarillion which this supposed to be from. It's tedious and it just chronicles what occurred during the 2nd Age. It's how all the races came to be, the Gods, the lands, the wars, the lineage of everyone, etc. How everything happened that created the events that lead to the Hobbit and the rings. It's not as detailed or exciting as the other books. That doesn't mean we don't know where these characters are supposed to be or what they were doing. Elrod was on the frontlines and Gladareil was using her superior skills in magic to fight. That doesn't diminish her as a strong woman just because she wasn't wielding a sword. That's where the fault in their thinking is. That a woman has to be physically strong to be considered a "strong woman".
