Yep. Most people simply can't understand why someone would want to live like that. They know they'd hate it, and people view everyone through their own perspective. If you'd hate it, you simply assume that's true for everyone else.

It's not entitlement. That's a misunderstanding. They're making excuses as to why they don't want it when they tell you why, almost at the beginning. Less freedom. More responsibility. We used to make a distinction between people who had fallen on hard times and people like this couple. This couple would be what was called hobos.

Most homeless move to warmer areas and areas that offer more free stuff.

@michaelbrinks8089 You had 2 houses and "lost" them? As far as smoking and drinking goes, those are not illegal. Someone smoking or having the occasional drink has nothing to do with anything so I have no idea why you made that an issue and don't care. There are programs available other than disability if you're actually homeless. Maybe go apply for them rather than sitting around watching YouTube which I don't know how you afford because the device and data would be beyond your price range if what you're claiming is true. I'll never understand why people think it's perfectly fine to rail against people online and cry to a bunch of strangers about their personal problems.

@baileydavenport744 They can go to jail where they're forced to get clean. This idea you seem to have that they're not there by choice simply isn't true. They've all been through programs to help them. The mentally ill stop taking their medication by choice because they're fine with being how they are. They'll make excuses, but no matter what medication they're given, once they're free of the institution they'd been placed in, they go right back. That's true for the drug addicts too. You think because you wouldn't want to live like that, they don't either, but you're wrong. I know because my great niece is like that. She's been put in programs that would have taken care of her and her children for 10-15 years and then find her a job and a place to live. She lasted 3 months. She's now forced by the nation, because she's part indigenous as are her kids, to live there. She's not allowed to go anywhere without supervision and that's how the rest of her life will be. They do that to protect the children. If she wasn't supervised, she'd be back on the streets immediately because she wants to be there and live like that. She's not an anomaly. She's the norm for people that are long-term homeless.

@P.H691 It's not always a tragedy that causes it. It's always been the case that some people simply can not function within society. They just don't want to. It's what used to be called hermits. Even if it is a tragedy, society can't prevent it, and it's still ultimately their choice.

@Apophis1010 That's because he's talking about it connected to working. They don't want to be tied down to a job. A schedule means responsibility and they don't want any.
