@TallisKeeton You've got to take into account when something is written and the what words meant at the time. Taking "darker skin" out of context could mean black. We know though that in that particular section of the book, he's discussing all the different types of Hobbits, so "darker" is simply a descriptor compared to the others which were described as fair skin. You can compare that with when he briefly discusses the southern lands Sauron has corrupted and the people there are dark. We also know that each section represents a real area in the world.

They wanted the marketability of Hobbits in an age they don't exist yet and yes they picked Harfoots for that reason. None of them exist in the 2nd age, and don't come into being until over 1,000 years into the 3rd Age.

The armor is printed stretch material. Like spandex. That's why it looks like that. There's a high definition picture of the Queen on horseback and it's clear that's what they've done. The price tag is including the purchase of the rights, the cost of the actors, and they built a detailed city. It doesn't look like there was much left for costumes. Edit: They have scene where one of the new characters lifts Galadriel's hair to look at her ears to see if she's an Elf. Which means even Amazon knows their Elves don't look like Elves.

I expect a season 2 simply because they are moving the location to England, maybe a 3rd to give it the good college try, but that's it. It's planned for 8. That's extremely pretentious of any studio to assume.

I loved WoT. Read them as they came out. I was excited when it was announced. I missed the first episode, heard the reviews and noped right out. I noped out of this one as soon the first teaser dropped.

The StarWars and Star Trek fandom are so proud of the Tolkien fandom because we're not backing down no matter what they call us. They aren't dealing with just a movie or TV franchise. They don't understand Tolkien isn't a franchise at all. It's one of the most important literary works to have ever been written. It has inspired the entire fantasy genre. It's to fantasy what Shelley is to horror. You don't mess with that.

I've got to give kudos to Amazon for reading the room and changing marketing right before it starts. It's changed from "We love Tolkien and are going to be faithful to his work! We swear!" To inspired by and based on LotR. Everyone knows inspired by and based on means we're using characters but it's going to be completely different. That means they need to change the title. If it's only based on it, it should be Rings of Power based on LotR. LotR should not be at the beginning. To get into what's wrong will involve some rumors/spoilers, but nothing most haven't already heard except possibly one which I'll heavily warn about. Hobbits don't exist in the 2nd age, which this is based on. That's one of the reasons they were able to resist the ring better than other races. They were a fairly young one. Gollum was an early Hobbit most likely Harfoot, so take that as you will when it comes to skin color. Celeborn, Galadriel's husband, is dead for some reason even though he's in LotR. I think it's funny even Amazon realizes their Elves don't look like Elves because they have Halbrand "a new character" lift Galadriel's hair to look at her ears. Elves should be easy to distinguish from humans on site. They are taller, more regal, and have an ethereal glow. Miriel is ruler in this series when she isn't in the books. Her husband is so, yeah. Can't have a weak woman. Spolier!!!! Halbrand is Sauron. I 100% expect him to have a "relationship" with Galadriel. Him disguised as a human mortal makes zero sense and never happened in the book. Why they think Elves and Dwarves would trust a human to form magical rings is beyond me.
