@YouTube_stole_my_handle The banks are doing what the government is telling them to. These are government backed loans. Remove government from that equation and the rates will drop. Then they'll be personal loans instead which require collateral greatly limiting the funds a person can get.

@wickedlee664 The PMRC was trying to ban those bands and records. The sticker was the compromise because they didn't win brownie points from the public with their Senate hearings, but companies didn't want to keep having the threat loom over them. The PMRC wanted to form a board within the federal government to decide what was and wasn't allowed. Those hearings were to determine if it should be implemented through legislation in Congress. You either don't know or don't understand what all that was really about. I will never support the state taking the role of the parent, which is what you're advocating for. If parents don't want their 9 year old listening to stuff, they need to pay attention and screen what their child has access to. Not create laws or regulations to stifle and censor. No, those stickers didn't make it more difficult for bands either. A record with that sticker would be purchased because it had the sticker.

They aren't Gen X. They are Millennials. Gen X was born from 1965- 1980. Ethan was born in 1985. That Senate hearing took place the year he was born. I don't think someone a few months old would have been invested in it. I find it particularly egregious when a Gen X is in favor of censorship when our whole thing was being as offensive as possible to pushback against obscenity laws which restricted speech. That's why saying the f word became such a habit. It was the main one, if spoken in public, that could result in a fine. Edit: We may not have been much into organized protests (the only one was the Battle in Seattle against globalism and China) because we're extreme individualists, but we still managed to get stuff changed. I want to point out that the one organized protest we did, we've been proven 100% correct in what we understood would come of allowing China into the World Trade Organization.

Have you read the Constitution? Pretty much yes they did. Outside of the responsibilities attached to each right, like intentionally lying about someone or other illegal things, freedom of speech means say whatever you want. They even outlined the things not covered by writing about it and relying heavily on English common law. Societal pressures are what's always been intended to decide what is and isn't acceptable, not the government. That's because they understood society would change so locking things in based on their standards of the day would eventually destroy the country. I suggest you read what they read which inspired the Constitution as well as their writings before claiming to know their mind at the time.

Those are the fees, not tuition. My state locked the price of tuition so the colleges just increased the fees.

Because it's simply wrong and illegal. This idea that's being pushed that free speech only applies to the government is false and there are court cases to prove it. Otherwise companies could ban workers talking about creating a Union and they legally can't. According to the "it's a private company it can do what it wants" argument they should be able to, but I guarantee almost all of them would be against it and would scream and yell about freedom of speech. It's also interesting how free speech used to be a key platform issue for Democrats, but now it's suddenly a "right wing reactionary" position.

@Bran_Flakesx7 Christianity is all about personal responsibility. You're responsible for your sins, if you don't work you don't eat, etc. Not to mention you're conflating the state with the soul which the Bible clearly separates. Give to Ceasar that which is Caesar's, give to God that which is God. No, I don't think I should be responsible for someone going to an expensive college and getting a useless degree. They could have made the choice to go to one they could afford and gotten a degree in a growing sector. They are responsible for their decisions just like if they sin they are responsible for it, not me. The reason I'm putting all this Christian stuff in here is because you brought religion into it. I have no problem with revamping the government loan stuff. I am against giving out money without actually fixing the problem. Especially since most of that tax money will go to students with wealthy parents. The majority of debt is held by those that went onto Masters and PhDs, not a Bachelor's and the loans are given to people who don't qualify for other forms of help because their parents make too much.

Angry Combat Wombat Really? Show me where the telephone companies can listen to your calls and decide you're not allowed to say something. Communication between individuals or the public is traditionally been held to free speech. Show me where a company can limit my speech that I don't work for or when I'm off the clock (outside of trade secrets). Disney can't prevent me from saying they suck even inside their own parks. That's a violation of my first amendment right because it's a public place. Anywhere the public can gather is a public space. This idea that because it's not face to face the same rules shouldn't apply is complete bs. That "dangerous" legal precedent was set ages ago. It's just not being applied when it comes from these companies for some reason. You're also ignoring 230 which was created by the government to protect these companies from lawsuits based on what someone else says on it, so the government is already involved totally defeating your argument that they shouldn't be.

All I was thinking was based 11 year old. The fat acceptance mess is destroying kids health.
