Millions of ppl around postsoviet states are identifying themselves with ruzzian culture/national myth, because they were indoctrinated into this ultraconservative informational space, which suppresses any self-reflection about "why i believe in this bullshit". That's why millions of ukrainians can openly talk about "good ruzzia/our bother-nation(ruzzian political mythologem)/great culture", while in ruzzia you are surrounded by endless amount of laws about "fakes/propaganda/external influence agent/religious feelings", which are written so abstract that government can easily put you into prison without any chance to defend yourself.
