Thank you. Interesting. I never knew that. I lived and worked in the former Soviet Union and speak Russian. I never heard this, but I did hear that the Russian Empire chose Orthodox Christianity as the "official" religion over Islam because Islam did not allow alcohol! I don't drink and found myself at a social disadvantage as many of the locals took my not drinking as an insult! Only by finally convincing my co-workers that I just don't like the taste of alcoholic beverages, they finally accepted that I was just weird...but not insulting them. FYI...women found the fact I didn't drink very attractive to them. 😎 Turns out Russian/Ukrainian women aren't attracted to alcoholics. I am not surprised the policy was not well received.
