  1. Correct! An "assault rifle" is a SELECTIVE FIRE (having BOTH semi-auto AND full auto capability) rifle chambered for an intermediate power rifle cartridge. NONE of the rifles on the table are, or ever were, assault rifles, except in the fevered imagination of uninformed politicians and people who listen to them. What uniformed politicians and people who listen to them often mistakenly refer to as "assault rifles" are merely normal semi-auto rifles with some cosmetic features, having nothing to do with their effectiveness, that look like assault rifles. "Looking like" an assault rifle, does NOT an "assault rifle" make.

  4. The first of these machines to come out in the mid-70s (as I recall) were from a company called "Weed-Eater". At the time, they were small, electric (with a cord) and used what was basically a round, heavy fishing line (.049", if I remember right). So, calling them a weed-eater is like the term "crescent wrench" or "Xerox machine" Robert's concern is how long the line lasts v. price and how much of his 8 hour day is spent re-filling spools of line. Time is money for Robert.
