  1. The first of these machines to come out in the mid-70s (as I recall) were from a company called "Weed-Eater". At the time, they were small, electric (with a cord) and used what was basically a round, heavy fishing line (.049", if I remember right). So, calling them a weed-eater is like the term "crescent wrench" or "Xerox machine" Robert's concern is how long the line lasts v. price and how much of his 8 hour day is spent re-filling spools of line. Time is money for Robert.
