A similar way to look at NATO artillery is to consider rifle cartridges. A .30-06, .308, .300 Winchester Magnum and .300 Savage are all .30 caliber cartridges and can all fire the *same bullets*, they can even use the same propellants, but the amount of propellent charges vary and the chambers sized for the containers of propellents (cartridge casings), specifics of the rifle firing them (and artillery pieces ARE rifles) vary tremendously. In short...if you found yourself in battle with a .308 (7.62 NATO) chambered rifle and a truckload of .30-06 cartridges...you're f*cked! While 155mm is a standard NATO artillery bore diameter, the powder charges vary by the individual guns

Most of that "ping" from the M1 in the video was the clip hitting the ceramic tile floor. Not from the rifle and ceramic tile floors are not common in combat conditions. That the M1 survived into the Viet Nam era for the US and throughout the Viet Nam war by the ARVN is testimony that the "ping" was not an issue. Then again, there is a scene in the movie "The Longest Day" where a US soldier mistakes the communication "cricket" for the bolt operation of a K-98 and gets killed for his mistake. So that must be true. Right? How did THAT rumor not catch fire on the internet?!?!?
