Under federal law they are all subject to revocation of immigration benefits and mandatory deportation for unlawfully claiming to be US citizens. "Prosecution" is not needed, they are supposed to be deported by DHS. My wife is a naturalized citizen. During the time she was a Permanent Resident (green card holder) we were meticulously careful NOT to claim she was a US citizen for ANY REASON. It can be difficult since in many instances people just assume you are a citizen, and you MUST be clear that you are NOT a citizen. The worst culprits are the DMV employees who seem to WANT to register everyone to vote. When we went to get her first driver's license, I literally had to tell the clerk THREE TIMES she is NOT a US Citizen and, please DO NOT register her to vote. She kept handing things to my wife to sign, and they all had the "US Citizen" box checked! They seem to be confused as to how to handle someone that is not a US citizen. We had the same problem with the Social Security Administration. The SSA clerk first told she could not have a Social Security number because she "was not a US Citizen". Nonsense. She has a green card. The supervisor came and solved the problem...by simply checking the box that she WAS a US Citizen! I finally had to get the Supervisor's supervisor to train them on how to handle a Permanent Resident. These people voted multiple times, so it wasn't just a mistake. That said, if you are a green card holder, DO NOT let these idiots mess up all your work and effort.

@merlie1254 I'm glad you became a citizen. I wish everyone would attend a citizenship ceremony and understand what that means for people. To answer your question: NO! A green card holder cannot vote. Even registering to vote can get you deported and all immigration benefits revoked. Registering to vote requires that you declare you are a US Citizen. Doing so as a permanent resident means you have falsely claimed to be a citizen. You will remember from your citizenship process they asked you, multiple times, if you have ever claimed to be a US citizen. They ask in your interviews, they ask on the N-400 petition, they ask over and over again. Be very careful about getting driver's licenses. The DMV people seemed determined to shove a voter registration form in front of everyone. While my wife was a permanent resident, we moved to another state. We went to get new driver's licenses and were standing next to each other at the clerk windows. I told the clerk serving my wife that she was a permanent resident and NOT eligible to vote. The clerk replied "oh, OK". Moments later she put a voter registration form in front of my wife for her to fill out and sign!!!!!!!!! My wife said "I can't do that, I'm not a citizen" And the clerk acted like she had no clue what my wife just said!!! They are like robots, programmed to go through the same process 500 times per day and just don't pay attention! Be very careful, YOU have to protect your immigration status and benefits.

@virtualdude2012 No. Because Musk is not in a position affected by that law. He is not a 'cabinet' member. Musk is an advisor. So is Ramaswamy, and both of them are volunteers. They are not, officially, even government employees. The law probably would apply to him if he were elected as Speaker of the House. (Depends and how that is crafted legally as it has never been done before) Spoiler alert: That won't happen to either Musk or Ramaswamy. Neither will be chosen as Speaker of the House, and I doubt either would want to be.

@virtualdude2012 Neither Musk nor Ramaswamy are in the Cabinet. Musk WILL get the "DOGE office" because it is an unpaid advisory position, not an official position, and there is no Senate confirmation required. Trump can have as many unpaid advisors as he wants.
