  1. I can tell you that, in the wake of Watergate, I didn't expect Ford to win election in 1976. I voted for him, but wasn't surprised he lost. I doubt any Republican could have been elected in 1976. (even Reagan lost his nomination bid). So, it was inevitable that Carter would be elected. Jimmy Carter was a lousy President. He is a very smart man, but was a lousy President. I also believe he is a very sincere and honest man. It was just as predictable he would not be re-elected in 1980. In his retirement, he was an honorable man, stayed out of politics and helped Americans by actually building homes for them. Not being just a front man, but swinging a hammer! Rosalynn was a true southern gentlelady and a great help to her husband and her country. They both deserve to be remembered fondly for their sincere love of the country.
