  1. When I was in High School in Texas in the 60s, our school had a "Rifle Team". The school provided us rifles, handguns and ammunition for competition shooting and practice. They were kept in lockers in the coach's classroom (he was also a math teacher) and we competed weekly against other schools and had twice weekly practice sessions. The school provided a bus to take us to practice and to competitions. The rifles were M1 "Garand" .30 caliber semi automatic rifles, and Remington Model 75 .22 rifles. The handguns were High Standard Supermatic Citations, semi auto pistols, .22 caliber. There were no school shootings at that time. The problem is NOT the guns.
