  1. Well, yes and no. It is the same gun that Beretta made in Brazil to the Brazilian military's specifications. When it was adopted by the US military Beretta moved the safety to the slide and made it a hammer drop safety. Hence the term 92SB-F, 92F and, finally the 92-FS after they made a modification to prevent a cracked slide from coming back into the user's face. Taurus bought the facility and machines from Beretta and continues to make the gun as it was made before 1985. I can't explain why they haven't updated it to the 92FS configuration.

  2. You discovered why the military specified moving the safety to the slide and making it a hammer-drop safety. I have no idea why Taurus never did the same thing.
