The chambered round would probably fire IF the microwave were on long enough and had high enough wattage to heat the mass of the gun and the cartridge (you see what happens when there is a piece of wood in the microwave). The gun itself would be a tremendous "heat sink" to absorb the energy of the microwave. Assuming it did fire, the bullet would be propelled in the normal manner but the slide would not cycle, not because the safety is on, but because when there is no resistance to reward movement of the gun (such as you holding it) the whole gun would simply move back. It would be the ultimate "limp wrist" situation...NO wrist. The weight of the gun is much less (39 oz. full size steel frame 1911) than the resistance of the recoil and hammer springs (18 pounds recoil spring alone, even if the hammer were already "cocked and locked"). Energy always takes the path of least resistance. The gun will just be thrown back, the slide will never move.
