  1. Well...most of the background checks are automated. If there was no conviction entered in the system, or no conviction on his record TO enter, then you are going by his sworn answers. Users or addicts of illegal drugs are not allowed to buy or possess firearms, whether they have been convicted of use or possession or not. The form asks if a person is a "user of or addicted to" illegal drugs. Lying on the form is a felony.
