  1.  @ExtraordinaryLiving  They may be lazy, but they are not stupid. I live in Florida. The state unemployment maxes out at $275/week. But the Federal PEUC pays the maximum state benefit PLUS $300/week for not working. Add to that all the other benefits a person can get if unemployment is their only income...food stamps are maxed out until September, for example. IF they work, even a little, their earnings are deducted, dollar for dollar, from their UI benefits. If they earn even $1 more than $275 for a week (before tax!), they also lose the $300 Federal benefit for that week. Add it all up and retail workers that get $10-13/hour before tax, $400-520/week are getting, minimum, $575/week to go fishing. Imagine what they get in other states! AND the government just exempted $10,200 of their unemployment benefits for 2020 from income tax, waived the need to repay excess tax credits for Obamacare, AND they do not even have to do a work search (Gov. DeSantis says they will have to start doing that in June) The government does everything they possibly can to disincentivize work. UNLESS a person is making...wait for it...$15/hr. or more. Hmmm...what was that minimum wage the Democrats wanted? 🤔

  2.  @drrightwing4435  They will continue unchanged until September 6. Democrats will try to extend them further. The reason the UI benefits were extended into September is so Congress can have their summer vacation and still have tie to come back and extend the benefits.

  4.  @MikeM.1971.GenX.  Not really. While most people may not have the same philosophy as Lee Christmas, the results are the same. Many of those people on unemployment are starting their own small businesses working for cash or other unreported forms of income. Using this opportunity to improve their future. They aren't all "lazy" and they are not stupid. A lot of them are out there hustling for CASH and collecting UI benefits to supplement their start ups. By the time UI benefits end, they will probably never go back to working for low wages. Did you notice all the delivery services that started up? I have had every sort of "service" ringing my doorbell for the last year. landscapers, tree trimmers, stump grinders, pressure washers. Have you noticed the HUGE increase in Ebay, Pinterest and Instagram sellers accounts? Don't get me wrong. I think unemployment should have been ended a long time ago. But it wasn't and there is no denying the result. There are going to be other, long term results...such as teleworking from this. Employers are going to see that they no longer have to pay for office space for their employees to drive an hour to each way to sit at a computer they have at home. Teleworking employees will be able to MOVE away from expensive cities and keep their income but live in cheaper areas. Why live in NYC or Seattle when you can live in South Carolina for much less and telework?
