There will be no "assault rifle" ban. Been there, done that. Didn't work. It's already against the law to walk into a school and shoot kids, I can't believe that turd actually said that. But he also (intentionally) threw in the term "machine guns" and "automatic weapons". When you MUST lie and distort to support your position, your position is untenable (and you know it) Answer? Put people with guns in schools to KILL anyone that tries to hurt the kids. When all else fails (and it WILL) then the attackers need to know they WILL be killed before they can carry out their crime. One BIG problem with the system. Mental health records are MEDICAL records and are carefully guarded. Multiple attempts to require reporting of mental health records to the NICS system have been fought by the American Medical Assn., who otherwise never saw a gun law they didn't like. And the AMA is even more powerful than the NRA. When a person is ADJUDICATED to be mentally ill, it then becomes a COURT record and is public record. The next problem? Doctors reporting people who seek mental health care, even for things like depression following a divorce or death of a loved one, may be denied firearms ownership and it may deter people seeking help they need.
