45 degrees will not produce the longest distance. It should be optimized at about 32 - 42 degrees. This is dependent largely on the affect of air resistance on the arrow, the speed of the arrow (air resistance is a function of velocity squared) which will vary from arrow to arrow and bow to bow. The formula below is for bullets and cannot be extrapolated directly for arrows, but indicates that 45 degrees is NOT the correct angle for maximum distance in any atmosphere other than a vacuum. Many formulas exist for different projectiles, finding the one that applies to YOUR arrow and bow would best be settled by experiment. You have a bow, arrows and an inclinometer.
