Entirely predictable. ANY subpoena, whether you consider it "legal" or "illegal" can be challenged in court and appealed all the way to the Supreme Court, if one is so inclined and has the funds for a legal team. (I'm not sure there is such a thing as an "illegal" subpoena, subpoenas are not warrants and do not require a judge to sign off or "probable cause") It was pretty clear from the time they issued the subpoena that Trump would just challenge it, run out the clock and when the new Congress takes office, the subpoena will be withdrawn. As usual, the intent was bad press and publicity for Trump. When you consider that all this ever was and ever intended to be was a show...well, the show's over.
