The defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal will be considered as the heroes of "The Alamo" are. One could say they didn't "win" their battle, but their defense and delay served the greater purpose that will lead to victory. Hopefully, they will return to Ukraine and their families soon. Every war has it's tragic heroes. The Alamo, the Bataan Death March, the British soldiers who were sacrificed to make the miracle of Dunkerque possible, Azovstal... they are all heroes. Slava Ukraini!!!!!!!!!! 🟦🟨

I lived and worked in Odessa, Ukraine for many years. The Black Sea climate is more mild than inland. It gets cold sometimes and snows sometimes but it is nothing like Kharkiv or Kyiv. The winter climate in the southern reaches of Crimea is more like mid-Atlantic USA than upper Midwest. I doubt the winter weather would seriously hinder repairs. That said...this could happen again. OR...the Ukrainians may have plans to capitalize on this before they would have a chance to repair the bridge. It is severely limited in what can be transported. That railway section looks seriously compromised also. FWIW, Odessa is at the same latitude as Montreal, Quebec, but it's location on the sea makes the winters more mild than it's latitude would suggest

@paulcoffman9841 Um...my wife (born and raised in Kharkiv, Ukraine) actually worked in Sergut, Russia (Siberia) as an accountant in an oil and gas production facility. They DON'T "put gas fields in Siberia" in "the dead of winter". You've never been there and you don't know what you are talking about. The construction and drilling is done in summer. Winter operations are limited to maintenance. Temperatures routinely drop to -30C and as low as -50C. In fact, the crews/staff were paid extra wages and given extra, paid, time off (in the winter) for volunteering to work in Siberia. Which is WHY my wife did it when she was young, just out of college, and single. Yeah, in a country with many more men than women, her and a classmate and lifelong friend thought they would reverse the odds for a couple years. She spent spent most of the winters near Sochi. Because the oil and gas fields were SHUT DOWN! I lived and worked in Odessa, Ukraine. I understand the difference between a Black Sea coast winter and a Siberian winter. You don't.

Churchill said the same thing, and despite the loss at Dunkerque, he was proven to be right. Colonel William Travis said the same thing, and despite the loss at the Alamo, he was proven to be right. FDR said the same thing, and despite the loss at Pearl Harbor and Corregidor and the Bataan death march, he was to be proven right. Who among us considers the soldiers of Dunkerque, the Alamo, Pearl Harbor, Corregidor or Azovstal to be anything but heroes?

His supporters still support him. There just aren't nearly as many supporters as there used to be. His next "rally", if there is one, should be interesting.

Whoever did this...Thank you! If you can...do it again. Take out the rest of the bridge.👍 Next...I expect a Ukrainian amphibious landing across the Dnipro river near the Nuclear Power Plant and a drive to the Sea of Azov, west of Mariupol, cutting the Russians in two and completely surrounding Crimea and the forces in Kherson.

@demef758 I expect so also. FWIW the Russians are using only one rail and have severely limited train speed and weight. This means the capacity of the rail bridge is less than 50%, probably less than 25% of it's previous capacity

@Homeschoolsw6 Russia has HUGE air defenses at that bridge. They also have radio signal disrupting equipment on barges around the bridge. I suspect a planted bomb under the bridge, a big one. Could it be charges that Russia placed there when the bridge was built in case it was ever necessary to destroy the bridge? 🤷‍♂ "Scuttling charges" so to speak. Maybe someone knew about it and "helped" Ukrainians. Another possibility is a stand off bomb, delivered by a stealthy aircraft, laser guided with someone on the ground "painting the target". Ukraine doesn't have those, but NATO does and NATO has air bases in Turkey. Just saying. But the explosion looks to be timed to affect the train also...that would have to be a planted bomb remotely detonated by someone within sight of the bridge.
