I split the difference and BUILT 2 rifles using quality parts acquired over time at good prices. Quality, speed or low price. Choose any two. If you are not in a hurry, you can collect all the parts needed for good prices. Invest the time to search, be patient, and when you have everything, assemble your high quality rifle for a 1/3 to 1/2 what it would cost you to buy one "off the shelf". Some tips: Online auctions. Sign up for accounts on parts suppliers' websites and get "sale" announcements. Watch for specials on the parts you need. I bought quality lowers and BCGs on Holiday sales for about 1/2 the normal price. Check things like local estates sales. I got 2 COLT upper receivers at a local estate sale! An A2 for $75 and an M4 for $40. I also got a complete COLT A2 fixed stock assembly with receiver extension, buffer spring, buffer and buttstock for FIVE DOLLARS! Check the estate sale listings and check their pictures of items for sale. I also came across an M1 carbine WALNUT stock and handguard in excellent condition w/the military cartouche...for FIVE DOLLARS. I sold it for $100 and used the cash for buying AR parts. I did the same with a Mossberg and a Remington shotgun barrel, which I bought cheap and sold for 3-4 times the price I paid.
