  1. FWIW High Standard made some good shotguns. This is not one of them. I was a police officer for 36 years, retired in 2009. Most of our vehicles were equipped with Remington 870 or Ithaca Model 37 police shotguns with 18" or 20" barrels. The Ithaca was, by far, the better of the two. By the early 80s, the department had stopped buying the Ithacas and had gone to the Remington exclusively (for cost reasons). But there were hundreds and hundreds of the Ithacas still in use. In the early 80s I bought one of the Ithacas being "retired" and it has lived under my bed as my primary home defense gun ever since. 20" barrel, 8 shot magazine, 2-3/4" chamber and bead sight. It does not have a ventilated handguard. Works perfectly and is slick and fast! Some of the newer autoloaders, the Beretta 1300 and Beretta 1201 may be the modern equivalent.
