  1. So...add to this...smoked sausage and some small (baby) white potatoes cut into quarters, and you have what my west Texas daddy called "famous bean casserole". He told my kids it was "Cowboy food" and they still call it "cowboy food" 40 years later! You can also slow cook them in a foil pan on a smoker with a brisket (the BEST!) WOW! Smoked brisket sandwiches with a side of Cowboy beans are heaven on earth!

  2. I have a similar recipe passed down from my dad. Beans/weenies/bacon/onion/brown sugar/small potatoes. It is in high demand for gatherings we go to. I am always asked to bring the "cowboy beans" to the party/bar-b-q. My father always made it when we were deer hunting and camping. He called them "cowboy beans" and my kids called them "cowboy food".

  4. I'm this old: One of my first jobs was working at McDonald's. Not my first job, but one of my first. They didn't have Big Macs yet. Only hamburgers (15 cents), cheeseburgers (20 cents), double hamburgers and double cheeseburgers and fish filet sandwiches. Fires, soft drinks (10 cents) and milk shakes. That's it. You got a burger and drink for 25 cents. Sales tax was 3% at that time, so there wasn't even any tax on a 25 cent sale. No indoor seating. No drive thru. You parked and walked up to an outdoor window. There were outdoor picnic tables, or you could eat in your car, or take it home. When Big Mac's (55 cents !!!!) came out I was a senior in High School. Fortunately I had moved on to higher paying careers by then. (bagging groceries and carrying them out to ladies' cars) I loved Big Macs and still can't get away from eating them! 🤣 It's all in that sauce!!!!!! BTW...both the McDonald's fish filet tartar sauce and the Big Mac sauce make excellent dipping sauce for French fries. Try it!!!!!!
